the following is information about various music programs (we will be updating over the next month): WIBC, All-State, and All-NW
Being in an honor band with some of the best music students in other schools is a fantastic learning experience and a chance for kids to push their limits, to challenge themselves musically and personally.
WIBC is Western International Band Clinic
, a conference put on by American Band College out of Ashland. Each year they recruit for four honor bands of about 160 members each and meet in November in Seattle. Well-known conductors are brought in to conduct. A number of Hilhi students have gone to WIBC over the years.

All-State and All-Northwest are honor groups
(band, wind ensemble, choir, orchestra, and jazz bands) put on by MENC -- the Music Educators™ National Conference. They perform at the State and Northwest regional MENC conventions respectively. MENC is the same organization that puts on solo & ensemble festival/contest in the spring. All-State is recruited from all of Oregon.
All-NW is recruited from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska. For several instruments, the All-State and All-NW audition music is nearly the same.
Auditions for all three of these groups are due the first week of October. Each has a list of audition music
All-State 2015: Details coming soon (will be held in conjunction with All-Northwest in Portland) .
Information and audition materials will be posted on their website: &;http://www.oregonmusic.org/
The deadlines for audition submissions are usually in early October. Students who wish to audition for All-Northwest and All-State use the same audition materials
Stay tuned for audition deadlines: These deadlines are for completion of the audition upload and payment of an audition fee. All NW and WIBC take audition fees by credit card on line. All-State can be mailed or paid on-line through Pay-Pal. The audition fees are on the order of $10-15.
As a side note, none of these three activities are HBBA sponsored events so:
1) Transportation, hotels and all expenses are the responsibilities of families
2) HBBA is not providing chaperones
3) Mr. Fotland is NOT responsible for the students during their participation. Mr. Fotland is participating in sessions too and brings an incredible amount of information and ideas back for our bands.
